I have not done a good job of keeping up with these postings, but I have not slacked off on training. As a matter in fact, the only day that I have not done something significant towards my goal of being an ironman was Easter Sunday. These last few weeks have been tough on the body, but I am constantly improving. Yesterday, I did approximately 1 mile open water swim in the Tennessee River followed by a 32 mile bike ride with a 19 mph average. Today, I ran 9.65 miles of intervals, but my average pace was at 9 min/mile. For a seasoned triathlete, those are pretty bad numbers, but considering that at the start of the year I was nowhere close to that, I am confident that I will be much better by race day.
This coming week will be even tougher. I am taking off work on Friday and heading down to Birmingham to participate in a 3 day Triathlon camp with several well known experts in the triathlon world. The following week will be my first race at the Rev3 Knoxville. That week will also include a 22 mile ride with Denniss Muilenburg, which I am looking forward to.
I also reached a milestone. I purchased my new bike in January and my ride yesterday put me over the 1,000 mile mark on it. That is around 300 miles per month and I haven't started my hard rides yet.
I will post next weekend to let you know how things go at the tri camp.
